Courtyard Concert Series Has New Venues
The "every May through October Friday and Saturday evening, weather permitting Courtyard Concert series" that takes place in the courtyard of the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts courtyard from dusk to 9 PM has changed.
"These free Concerts are not cancelled, we have simply moved to some different venues," said Bobby Welch, Director of the Hardin Center. "Offering live music to citizens and offering musicians a venue to perform in is still the goal of the series. Everyone really enjoyed the steel drum band that we had at the May First Friday, so we thought that we would put live music acts in front of the Center every First Friday.
"Every Friday night in June, we are partnering with the library and showing a film on the lawn of City Hall. We thought that having live music an hour before the film would also be a good venue. Then someone mentioned the Courtyard with the water wall at the Senior Activities building next to the Pitman. We teamed up with Downtown Gadsden and Parks and Recreation and have decided to put a live musical act every third Thursday from June through October. We are calling it Thirsty Third Thursdays at the Water Wall Courtyard. You can bring your picnic baskets and coolers.
"Plus, we are helping sponsor MoonSong Music/ Songwriters Cafe live music each Friday and Saturday evening as well as a song writers workshop".
Our sponsors, the Gadsden Times, Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Compass Bank, Z93.1 and the Alabama State Council on the Arts, are pleased that more people will be exposed to this live music. It's not just for folks who happen to come by the Center on weekends.
We are almost done scheduling the bands, and should have a complete listing available on our website soon. For more information, contact Tom Banks 543-2787 x 38 or tombanks@culturalarts.org.
